THE CLINICAL PREDICTORS OF MECHANICAL VENTILATION IN PATIENTS WITH GUILLAIN-BARRE SYNDROME
Abstract
To determine the frequency of mechanical ventilation among patients with Guillain Barre Syndrome and to compare patients with and without mechanical ventilation for factors leading to mechanical ventilation. This descriptive study was conducted at the Neurology Department of PIMS, Islamabad, enrolling 98 patients aged 13–70 years diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome using Brighton criteria. Demographic and clinical data, including mechanical ventilation and its clinical predictors like autonomic dysfunction, bulbar dysfunction, ascending weakness pattern, and ophthalmoplegia was recorded.
